today's jams: tUnE-yArDs
Today my favorite thing about tUnE-yArDs is that if I didn't like this band, it would be completely un-listenable. It's a sensory seeking assault.I'm especially fond of the the saxophone part in this song where it's off set by like a 32nd note in the right vs the left channel. Delicious. w h o k i l l came out in 2011 and it's one of those albums I want to hold up and point at and say "look at the cool shit that was happening this year!"1 This was a year where I would have been just starting to develop my own tastes. I look at that year's music with no small amount of nostalgia, but what a cool year to start discovering what music could sound like. I'm glad that happened to me.
"Rally" was cut from 2014's Nikki Nack and was released on the deluxe edition which came out in 2024. I think it's my favorite track on that album.
I was thinking "was this one of the best albums to come out in 2011?" and man, so many awesome albums came out this year. Fleet Foxes, St Vincent, M83 all had killer releases this year.↩
